Inspiration this week came from one of Petra Corcoran’s recent blog posts – you can read it here. Petra is one of Becky Higgins’ 2013 Creative Team and one of their challenges was to go back to basics. I loved Petra’s pages and decided to challenge myself for this week.

I took some aqua cards from the Seafoam core kit, some Studio Calico grid cards, some aqua thickers and the inevitable wood veneer (have I mentioned how much I love wood veneer?).

I really like how it turned out. The Seafoam kit is still a favourite for me. Just a little journalling missing from that last card – the reason for celebrations staying a secret for just a while longer (and for those ever hopeful friends – this means you Melanie W – no more babies on the way!).

A brief departure from the keep it simple theme for the Union Jack bling – I couldn’t let booking my first trip home in 6 years go by without some kind of celebration!

I went for a bit of an Amy Tangerine theme this week in honour of the little bit of awesomeness I received in the mail from my beautiful friend Beth. Amy Tan was in Brisbane recently and I had planned to be down there for work at the same time. Unfortunately the planets did not align and I couldn’t make it. Beth asked Amy to sign one of my business cards to cheer me up a but. Certainly did the job. Thanks Beth and Amy xx

More crochet, some special visitors at work and the fabulous Iron Man 3 (love those movies) made up the first half of week 19.

Friday seemed to be a long time coming around this week but the weekend made up for it with lovely markets on Saturday and then Mothers’ Day with my little mates on Sunday. I love the things they made at school!

For this weeks layout I used the April mini kit from Polkadot Creative with just a few little extra bits and bobs added in.

I have removed the photos for Tuesday and the journalling is hidden inside the “open me” card – a secret for now

I used the twine from the kit to stitch the ‘ouch’ onto the picture of Sawyer after his vaccinations and  to attach the wood veneer arrow on to the bottom journal card.

Managed to get another photo of me in this week too – really living up to my resolution to get in the book more this year

I used cards from the Studio Calico Project Life kits again this week.

The left side:

Flynnie is getting really good at writing his name. He wrote it on a grid card for me so I could put in in this week.

The boys and I had our picture in the local paper too. I think already this year there are more pictures of me in my PL than for the whole year last year (which was one of my challenges for 2013).

The right side:

Anzac Day is a public holiday in Australia and we all went down the the Strand to watch the march. I put Flynnie’s flag in and used the insert for the photos.

Friday was dress up day at school and both the boys went as pirates. I used my silhouette cameo to cut the skull and crossbones for Flynnie’s hat. He was so proud of it!

Sharon from Projects of my Life and I went to a Zentangle class on saturday morning. It was so much fun! I put my first attempt in the back of the insert:

I have to say that it was definitely worth the wait. Great colours, great quality and great fun to work with.

Week 16 saw me heading back to work after a great couple of weeks leave. Never easy! A couple of lunch dates with good friends got me through the first couple of days Then it was back to the usual carrot sticks at my desk!

Flynnie is doing so well at swimming – he tries so hard, and got a certificate on saturday to put on his bedroom wall. Sawyer came with us this week and was such a good boy sitting and watching the lesson.

Week 15 was an unexpectedly cold and rainy week in the tropics. I had a week off from work and had planned to swim every morning after dropping the boys off but after monday it was just too cold! We even had to unpack the winter PJs for the boys!

The weather was starting to get to me by the end of the week which called for some lemon tart and chocolate action!

One great thing about the week off was that it let me complete my Melbourne daybook (see previous post here). I always like to finish these kind of projects up soon after I get home before I lose the impetus!

Even though I was only in Melbourne for 4 days, I had so many photos and stories that I knew I wanted to do a travel journal or daybook.

I already had one of the awesome Amy Tangerine daybooks – available from Polkadot Creative here, and with a tiny bit of modifying (I rounded the corners and took the plastic piece off the cover) it was just perfect.

All photos were taken on my iPhone and printed at Big W because my printed died this week (I’m open to any suggestions as to what to get next – I need to be able to print good quality photos up to at least A4). This meant I couldn’t easily go back and reprint – I had to stick with what I had).

I’m pleased with the fat, chunky result!

Week 14 was a big week! Tuesday was our wedding anniversary and then I spent the rest of the week in Melbourne at the Australian Dental Association Congress.

For our anniversary Neal and I decided to go scuba diving. It had been a long time since we last went. We went out to Wheeler Reef – an old favourite for both of us. It was fun to dive from our own boat and we had the most fabulous day.

And Melbourne? Melbourne was awesome. I am in the middle of making a day book of the trip but couldn’t resist this amazing picture which was the view from my hotel room on Friday morning. Just beautiful! I caught up with old friends, ate good food, drank excellent wine, scored some top freebies, did some bargain shopping (oh and went to a few lectures). I hope everyone had a great Easter! We certainly did with celebrations all week for one thing or another.

This week was Sawyer’s first official week out of the baby room and into the junior toddlers. He was so ready to move up but it was definitely a bittersweet moment for me. He’s growing up SO fast!

Melissa brought little Emily into work this week for a little bit of Easter Egg distribution. Was great to see them both.

On Thursday night we went out to a local restaurant with some friends and had a great meal. It was 12 months almost to the day since Neal and I had been out without the boys. Thank you so much to our fabulous friend Juli for doing the babysitting honours (and reading Flynnie the requested 3 stories…!).

I got my diving gear out this week in preparation for a little day trip Neal and I were planning for our anniversary next week. We haven’t been diving since before I was pregnant with Flynnie so I was really excited to get everything out of the cupboard again!

My friend Sharon from Projects of my Life made the two Easter cards for me. I love them and used the 4×6 one as part of a little flip up to add more Easter Sunday pictures. The picture below shows what’s underneath…

Neal surprised me with mojitos on monday for a special treat. Such a nice surprise and also a nice reminder of the PLA Getaway a couple of week ago. Miss you girls! xx

Flu vaccination at work on wednesday will hopefully look after me this winter. The lollipop was a nice treat too

Friday saw us at Townsville Grammar with Flynnie. I was so proud of him shaking the teacher’s hand and saying “Hello, I’m Flynn Wilkinson” (he’s only 3!). The pre-prep department looks wonderful and I’m sure he will love it there. He is growing so fast!

Beach and pool at the weekend – it is starting to cool down just a little which makes it easier. Flynnie still very enthusiastic about his ‘diving’. We haven’t told him that Neal and I are planning a day’s diving ourselves soon!
